Idaho Child Find – 2025–2026

Helping identify and support children with developmental delays or disabilities.

About the Idaho Child Find Program

The Idaho Child Find program helps identify, locate, and evaluate children who may have developmental delays or disabilities and who might need special education or related services. This includes preschool-age children and students through age 21 who are not currently receiving educational support.

If you have concerns about your child’s development — such as speech, movement, behavior, or learning skills — your local school district can help.

What Is Child Find?

Child Find is a federally mandated program designed to ensure that all children with disabilities have access to a free and appropriate public education (FAPE). The program provides screenings and referrals for children who may need evaluation for special education services.

Who Is Eligible?

  • Children ages 3 through 21 with suspected disabilities
  • Preschool-aged children not enrolled in school
  • Students who may have:
    • Developmental delays
    • Speech or language difficulties
    • Behavioral or learning concerns
    • Physical or emotional challenges

How to Get Help

If you suspect your child may need assistance, contact your local school district. Each district provides screenings and evaluations at no cost to families.

You do not need to wait until your child starts school — early identification helps ensure the best support possible.
