Student Wellness & Nutrition

At Shelley School District, student success starts with student health.

Healthy students learn better, stay focused longer, and have improved attendance and behavior. Our Child Nutrition Program supports the physical and mental well-being of every student by providing nutritious meals, encouraging healthy choices, and promoting active lifestyles throughout the school day.

We follow all requirements of the USDA National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, and Smart Snacks in Schools regulations.

    Shelley Schools are committed to creating a healthy learning environment where students: Eat nutritious meals Learn lifelong healthy habits Participate in physical activity Feel supported in their overall well-being The district promotes wellness by integrating nutrition, physical activity, and healthy school practices into the daily educational experience.
  • Smart Snacks & Food Sales
    Foods sold during the school day must meet USDA Smart Snacks in Schools standards. This applies to: Vending machines School stores À la carte items Fundraisers held during school hours Fundraisers Schools may hold a limited number of exempt food fundraisers each year, but they: Cannot occur during meal service Must follow Idaho State Department of Education guidelines Non-food fundraisers are encouraged: School merchandise Books Fresh produce Activity events
  • Classroom Celebrations
    To support healthy habits: Classes may have no more than one food celebration per month Only one item may not meet Smart Snack standards Schools provide parents with healthy party ideas (Birthday treats and after-school events are not regulated by USDA but we encourage healthy options.)
  • Physical Activity & Wellness Education
    Shelley Schools promote healthy lifestyles by: Encouraging daily physical activity Supporting PE and recess programs Providing nutrition education Promoting healthy eating habits Using evidence-based strategies (Smarter Lunchrooms)
  • Community Involvement
    Parents and community members are invited to participate in our wellness program. Participants may include: Parents & students Teachers & PE staff School health professionals Food service staff Administrators School Board members Community members
  • Policy Transparency
    The district publicly shares: Our Wellness Policy Progress toward wellness goals Compliance with federal standards A full assessment every 3 years These documents are available on the district website or by request.
